Classic sensations promised for Salon Privé

| 27 Apr 2012

A bevy of one-off shooting brakes and styling masterpieces by Touring will be among the highlights of the seventh running of Salon Privé. The Pegaso Thrill and Lamborghini Flying Star are both set to make their UK debuts as a result, alongside both the original and 2012 Disco Volantes as part of a huge celebration of the Italian carrozzeria.

Although the concours remains at its Syon Park venue, the date will move to 5-7 September for 2012 and organisers today outlined many more planned changes, including an art and memorabilia feature showcasing 10 world-renowned motoring artists.

Other classic highlights will be a Bugatti class starring the company's – and Ettore's – first racer, a 1912 Type 16.

Special guest at today's press launch in Brentford was Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay, who brought along his Ferrari 330GT Vignale shooting brake to herald a class dedicated to the coachbuilt wonders.

It was joined by a Bugatti Brescia and a host of other machinery representing this year's concours classes.

Salon Privé promises 25 Ferrari F40s to mark the silver jubilee of the 200mph supercar, plus 12 Gullwing Mercedes to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the SL.

One of the biggest attractions, however, will be the biggest-ever public display of the ever-expanding Rofgo Collection of Gulf-liveried racers. Some 12 of the cars could be seen at Rétromobile two years ago, but Salon Privé is promising 18 – including a GT40 (below) and Mirage (above) – plus the transporter.

Two motorcycle classes will include V-twins and competition 'bikes.

Among the judges already lined up for the event are Derek Bell, Dr Ulrich Bez, Dr Adolfo Orsi, Peter Stevens, Ian Callum and Suzi Perry.

Jay Kay said: "There are some seriously unique exhibits this year and I for one can't wait to take a closer look at the Gulf collection and the Ferrari F40 25 years celebration."

Event co-founder David Bagley added: "It is shaping up to be a truly memorable year in Salon Privé history and another wonderfully fashionable and glamorous garden party in quintessentially English style."
